Creating communities to be proud of
Growing Futures at a Glance
Growing Futures is a youth program of The Parkdale Food Centre in Ottawa, Canada. The program was born in 2016 when the Executive Director and Centre Manager of Parkdale returned from a conference in Banff on Economic Inequality noticing an important voice missing from the conversation: youth!
Our program supports youth to hone their skills as Solutionaries and invites youth to create their own solutions to complex issues.
A Solutionary is someone who sees opportunity where other people see challenges. A Solutionary is a community builder.
What We Do
Through our dynamic workshops, we uplift the youth of Ottawa and support them in shifting from focusing on what's wrong with our communities to recognizing and building on what's strong within them.
Identify
Supporting youth in naming the systemic causes of inequalities & inequities and spotting the root causes of community issues.
Connect
Building a strong sense of belonging by connecting youth with members of the community such as business owners!
Mobilize
Helping youth maintain a Solutionary mindset in tackling complex issues, as they discover the entry points for collective action that fit for them!
“I'm inviting you to have a seat at my table. And it's an honor to be able to have a seat at our table and for us to open up in this way and for us to feel safe enough to have these conversations and share them with you.”
